What is chlorhexidine?
Chlorhexidine is a chemical compound with broad-spectrum antiseptic effect, capable of eliminating bacteria and fungi. In dentistry, it is used as a complementary treatment when there is a risk of infection or when oral hygiene is compromised.
When is it used?
- Gum diseases: Gingivitis and periodontitis.
- After surgeries: Extractions or implants, to prevent infections.
- Mouth sores: Helps accelerate healing.
How to use it?
It is usually prescribed as a mouthwash. Rinse with 10-15 ml undiluted for 30 seconds, twice a day. Do not swallow it and wait 30 minutes before eating or drinking.
Precautions
Prolonged use can cause staining on teeth. Therefore, at Somriures Dental, we recommend using it only under professional prescription and for a limited time.
