Phases of implant treatment
Placing an implant is not a one-day procedure, but a process consisting of several stages:
- Study and planning: X-rays and 3D scans are performed to evaluate the bone.
- Placement surgery: The implant is inserted into the bone. It is a quick and painless intervention with local anesthesia.
- Osseointegration: This is the healing period where the implant bonds to the bone. It usually lasts between 3 and 6 months.
- Crown placement: Once integrated, the final prosthesis (the visible tooth) is placed.
Do immediate implants exist?
Yes, in some favorable cases (immediate loading), the implant and a temporary crown can be placed on the same day. This depends on bone quality and implant stability.
Recovery
Most patients can return to normal life the day after surgery. Discomfort is usually mild and controlled with medication.
