What is periodontal disease?
It is an infection of the tissues that support the teeth. It is divided into two stages:
- Gingivitis: Inflammation and bleeding of the gums. It is reversible.
- Periodontitis: Affects the bone and can lead to tooth loss.

- Bleeding when brushing.
- Red or swollen gums.
- Persistent bad breath.
- Tooth mobility.
What does the treatment consist of?
The goal is to eliminate bacteria and tartar accumulated under the gums. Depending on the severity, it may include:
- Scaling and root planing: Deep cleaning of tooth roots.
- Periodontal surgery: To access deep areas and regenerate bone if necessary.
- Maintenance: Periodic check-ups to prevent relapse.
